The Blink, Part Two

A blink,

Or perhaps a furtive wink,

Such a small, barely perceptible movement,

there one second and gone the next,

could he even be sure he'd seen it?

He wasn't sure, that was precisely the problem,

doubt plagued his mind,

the veracity of what he'd almost,

perchance, possibly, plausibly seen,

and so he hesitated.

But wait, there it was again,

A flutter, a flash, a glimmer or bat of an eyelash.

A scintillating intention?

More likely just a mote in the eye,

he convinced himself,

and yet, he continued to stare, watchful

wakeful, wary that he'd see it and not see it. 

Conflicted, confused, a cacophony of discord.

A dissonant diatribe reverberated inside.

So he sat and he brooded and he very nearly stewed,

Until she stood, winked, woo'd and won

with a crook of her finger.
